The History of Canterbury Colorado

CANTERBURY COLORADO – The Episcopal ministry to the students, faculty and staff of the University of Colorado - Boulder was started in 1948 by Father A.B. Patterson, Jr. and his wife, Virginia. The ministry grew into the parish of St. Aidan which sponsored, supported and nourished the campus ministry.

Over the years, the ministry evolved from the Campus Ministry at CU, to the College and Young Adult Ministry (CYAM), the Episcopal Ministry to the University of Colorado - Boulder (EMCUB), and now, CANTERBURY COLORADO.

St. Aidan’s continues to nurture and support the ministry by sharing staff with Canterbury Colorado and providing facilities for the use of Canterbury Colorado staff and the students, staff and faculty of CU.

In May 1998, Canterbury Colorado became an independent entity within the Diocese of Colorado, and was incorporated as a not for profit corporation. In August 1998, Canterbury Colorado received 501 (c) 3 status from the United States Internal Revenue Service.
