Text Box: Canterbury Board of Stewards
Text Box: Greetings!
I wanted to provide some information regarding some restructuring of the Canterbury Board of Stewards and our working relationship with St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, which has so graciously hosted our outreach to CU Boulder for these many years.
EMCUB was created as a diocesan institution in 1998. At that time, a Board of Stewards with 21 members was created to support this new incarnation of our campus ministry. As with all things, after working with this structure for several years, our board came to a collective decision that some changes might work better in supporting the ministry. As a result there were two fundamental changes we enacted this year.
First, the size of our board has been reduced from 21 appointees to 11 appointees. This allows for a more active board that can better enable the ministry by focusing on vision, long-range Text Box: planning, and fund raising. This new board still maintains representation from St. Aidan’s, from the three other Boulder churches (St. Ambrose, St. John’s, and St. Mary Magdalene), and from the diocese. We believe this more streamlined board will allow us to meet more often and to maintain a better focus on the tasks we need to accomplish.
We have also developed a more efficient way to provide services and support for the ministry, in conjunction with St. Aidan’s. Previously the EMCUB chaplain (Fr. Pat and Virginia Patterson chair) and staff were employees of EMCUB. In recognition that our mission and St. Aidan’s mission were very much in concert, we decided that the chaplain and the support staff would be provided by St. Aidan’s through a management agreement. This allows for a more unified presence to the students, faculty and staff at CU Boulder. This change also allows Text Box: the board to focus more strategically and allows the day-to-day ministry to operate more effectively.
From where we are today we are looking forward in our ministry. The Rev. Dustin Berg (see his page one article) is joining us as our chaplain, and we are planning activities to provide appropriate resources, today and in the future, to support our ministry to CU Boulder, in conjunction with the clergy, vestry, and staff of St. Aidan’s. We are working with the diocese to develop a strategy for seeding and supporting other college ministries.
So I want to thank you all for your support. I also ask for your continued prayers and support as we embark on the next chapter of God’s plan for us here in this place.

Sincerely,
Ed Kase
