Canterbury Colorado

Love one another as I have loved you. John 13:34

Canterbury TalesText Box: In October of 2006, four Canterbury students participated in the Colorado Diocesan Convention, along with several students from the Episcopal Campus Ministry at Colorado State University. For the second year in a row, Canterbury students helped to facilitate a worship service of lessons and prayers at Convention. This year, however, Canterbury students Jamie Mills, Seth Raymond, Ryan Freedle, and Jennie Carr led the music
Text Box: portion of the worship services, featuring hymns, praise and Taizé songs. One of the highlights of the convention featured Bishop Rob O’Neill joining the musicians to sing one of his favorite praise songs, “All in All,” at the conclusion of the Convention. This act was indicative of Bishop O’Neill’s strong commitment to young adult and college ministries!
The presence of Canterbury at the convention not only al-
Text Box: lowed us to participate in and interact with our Diocese, but also helped to broaden our visibility within the diocese. With many Colorado Episcopalians attending universities in Colorado, it is important for us to continue to inform people about the presence and ministry of our diocesan campus ministries. Canterbury looks forward to participating in another Diocesan Convention this upcoming Fall!

Text Box: Between Dec. 28, 2006 and Jan. 1, 2007, Canterbury Colorado sent six people to CELEBRATE!, an ecumenical conference for Christians of all denominations to come together for worship and interdenominational dialogue and cooperation.
The focus of the conference was a little Text Box: different than previous conferences, as the focus shifted from learning and information (through great workshops and speakers) toward a focus on the devastation of Katrina and our response as Christians.
Participants spent time praying, worshiping and discerning how God was calling them to serve others and work to fight Text Box: against the injustices which exist in our world. Many committed or recommitted their lives to service and careers which directly help people fight against poverty, homelessness, hunger, and other worldly inequalities.

Text Box: During December 2006, the students of Canterbury Colorado held their annual Advent celebration in the Canterbury Lounge of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church. The festivities began with an opening prayer and light refreshments after which the students settled in for some good company and conversation. After many good laughs and a few reflections on the previous semester, students gathered the various couches and recliners together around the large central table Text Box: where a small pile of strangely shaped objects had been collected. With the uniquely Canterbury Colorado Advent Tree sparkling just off to the side, the students then began the traditional “White Elephant Gift Exchange.”
Oddly wrapped packages holding everything from Transformers T-shirts, to fluffy pink pillows, to one-dollar DVDs were exchanged, stolen, and re-stolen, eventually finding a home. The spending limit was ten-dollars, but the comic Text Box: value of the experience was far greater and everyone had a good smile. Overall, it was a great time for students to come together as a community and reflect upon the challenges and successes that occurred throughout a terrific and transitional year. Additionally, it was a time to honor some old traditions as well as to experience new settings (The Canterbury Lounge opened in October 2006). It was a time to treasure.
