Text Box: “ Life in the community focuses on prayer and above all, meditation.”
Text Box: From May 18-29, Canterbury sponsored a pilgrimage, involving 21 student and 4 chaperones, to Taizé, France. While there, these pilgrims spent a week at the monastery, founded in 1940 by Brother Roger, and dedicated themselves to reconciliation. The ecumenical community was comprised of more than a hundred people from many nations, representing several branches of Christianity, including Protestant and Roman Catholic. Life in the community focuses on prayer and above all, meditation. At the heart of Taizé there is a passion for the Church, which is the reason why the community centers on renewal of home churches through invigorating young adults who will return to their home community with a strengthened passion for furthering the Gospel message.
Young people in particular, visit Taizé from all over the world, joining in communal life Text Box: and taking part in weekly meetings of prayer and reflection. Canterbury sponsored and led the pilgrimage with the help of our administrative assistant Fred Peterbark.
The pilgrims would like to extend special thanks to the many contributing donors as well as the grant funding sources from the Episcopal Church in New York, and the Christ Church Outreach Commission in Denver.
Canterbury participants included Jamie Mills, Ryan Freedle, Seth Raymond, Jennifer Carr, Bobby Pomeroy, John Moore, and Ashley Tinnon. They were delighted to be joined by Text Box: 25 Participate in Pilgrimage to Taizé, France!
